The Power of Shoes

It was a normal day in my normal life. I was at Nordstrom, doing some stress relief shopping. My littlest boy and I were just getting ready to check out, when something caught my eye. A name.

Not just any name.

A name that strikes reverence and awe into the hearts of all those who follow the glorious world of fashion.

None other than the name of MANOLO BLAHNIK.

The thing that really caught my attention was the odd way in which this sacred name was being displayed; in a shoe box on a fold out table amongst stacks of other boxes. The outrage I felt from this slander had me on the verge of a serious diva moment. But before I could have a proper tantrum, I was distracted by the names printed on other shoe boxes on that table.

Valentino.
Marc Jacobs!!
Prada!!!
Dolce & Gabbana!!!

Dior!!!!

I couldn't believe what I was seeing! These are some of the most respected and coveted designer shoes in the fashion industry! The outrage returned in full force! What were these precious gems doing piled on top of each other in such an irreverent fashion?!

With my heart pounding, I slowly moved toward the table. The Manolo's are my size! I reached out toward the beautiful shoes with trembling fingers, fully aware that I was facing the realization of a lifelong dream. I wasn't fully aware that I'd stopped breathing until I forced my eyes to focus on the price tag. If I'd had enough air to scream, I would have.

Original price: $995.99

Marked down: $695.99

Reduced: $349.99

Sale Price: $149.99

For a moment, the heavens parted! A pillar of light shone down around us; me and my Manolo's. I heard the beautiful sound of angels singing! I didn't realize that the singing was coming from me until the sales associate offered me a tissue and helped me up off my knees. I called several friends on the spot, offering to buy whatever they wanted. But there were no size matches for anyone else.

This will go down as one of the greatest moments of my young, broke life. A moment when the existence of a higher power was confirmed beyond a doubt. I already had all the icing in my life. The "happy marriage" and the "healthy body" and all that. But my Manolo's? My Manolo's are the CAKE.

Oh! They're beautiful. And so practical too!

"A name that strikes reverence and awe..."

You got that right sister. I rarely find myself in Malano territory... and once when I was in Nordstrom Rack or the other one... Saks outlet store... I can't remember the name... I was browsing the pretty shoes... saw the name and picked up as if holding the infant Christ child Himself - and sighed... "Oh, they really are so beautiful. Now I know what Carrie's fuss was all about."

You are just such a great story teller. I loved picturing you weeping and being helped up from your knees. Hilarious.

I have to say that this is one area where we totally disagree..not on the fact that Manolo's are a beautiful shoe..no one could disagree with that. I just could never get excited about spending that kind of green for a shoe. Now show me a good vintage store or thrift shop..and I can imagine that same scene except when I pick up the shoe and see the price tag of $7.99..choir of angels enter stage left...

Shut your mouth! Those are beautiful!

You had the same reaction I did when I found Michael Kors flats on sale for $40.
