I thought I was OK with Kristen Stewart as Bella until she started talking. Danielle Panabaker would have played the part perfectly. Plus, her physical description is DEAD ON. Check it out:

Her face is heart-shaped—a wide forehead with a widow’s peak, large, wide-spaced eyes, prominent cheekbones, a thin nose and a narrow jaw with a pointed chin. Her lips are a little out of proportion, a bit too full for her jaw line. Her eyebrows are darker than her hair and more straight than they are arched. She’s slender but not at all muscular, and weighs about 115 pounds." Danielle Panabaker IS Bella Swan.
Carlisle Cullen. 23 years old, blonde hair, "more handsome than any movie star you've ever seen". This is Peter Facinelli, the guy they cast to fit that description. REALLY? I don't get it. Dumping a bottle of hydrogen peroxide on this guy's hair is not going to fix the many problems here.THIS is Justin Hartley. Angelically beautiful face, warm, compassionate eyes, that classic V-shaped body... Nothing to fix here. He's an absolutely perfect Carlisle Cullen.
Elisabeth Reaser did a good job as Esme. But the problem lies in her appearance. Next to The Barney they cast as Carlisle, she was believable, but next to Justin Hartley she would look like a Far Side character. Also, she is 33 years old and totally looks it! Sorry Elisabeth, but you just don't make the cut.Emmy Rossum would be a sensational Esme. She's got the round, soft face, is young enough to be a Cullen, but has wonderfully soulful eyes with a great emotional sensitivity about her that would work very well with this character. She's also beautiful enough to stand next Justin with her head held high.
I have absolutely no problem with Kellan Lutz as Emmett. Though I imagined him to have a bit more bulky muscle, Kellan still looked the part, and played it well.
The casting for Rosalie, on the other hand, was a disaster. Her surreal and striking beauty is so essential to her entire character. Nikki Reed is pretty enough to be a high school crush in a Disney movie, but not even CLOSE to hot enough to be Rosalie Hale! The coloring is all wrong, the body type isn't even close... I do not understand how they decided on this girl with so many other blonde beauties in the world. My first pick was AnnaLynn McCord. But an anonymous commenter has brought another girl to my attention, and she has stolen the part! Tamsin Egerton would have been ideal as the beautiful, bitchy, self righteous, egocentric Rosalie that we all love to hate. This girl is AMAZINGLY beautiful. In my movie, she OWNS that part.
Jackson Rathbone isn't an ugly kid, though GOD KNOWS they did their best to make him one in this movie. But even at his very cutest, he is all wrong for the part of Jasper Hale. Jasper is a General of WAR! He led thousands of ravenous vampires into countless battles and came out on top every time! Of all the Cullens, Jasper is the most dangerous. But this kid they cast looks like one sudden move will make him crap his pants.My pick is Chase Crawford. I could see myself taking a step backward if this guy maintained eye contact for too long. He's got this aggressive edge to him, with a kind of brooding sulkiness that would very much suit Jasper's character.
I don't know who's unemployed cousin got the job of hair and makeup for this movie, but anyone who could take an amazing beauty like Ashley Greene and turn her into the scraggley, outdated, mousey looking thing that appeared in Twilight deserves to be publicly scorned and to never work in the beautification field again. That said, I think Ashley, sans the bad wig, terrible lighting and poor directing, was a fantastic Alice. The perfect face, coloring, body and attitude. Fix everyone else on the set and she's a keeper.
Aside from yet another bad wig and EXTREMELY overbleached teeth, Taylor Lautner did a great job as the young Jacob Black. But there is just no way he's going to be big enough to play Jacob in the upcoming movies. By the end of the 3rd book, Jacob is supposed to be 6'6" and look like he's in his late 20's. I propose that we switch actors, if not in New Moon, then for SURE in Eclipse. My proposed actor is of course, Steven Strait. For starters, Taylor and Steven look freakishly alike. It would be a believable swap. And just look at those beautiful, anguished eyes! He would do it so well. Also, it's my understanding that Jacob spends a lot of time half naked in the last two books. That seals my casting choice. Cuz DEAMN.
Cam Gigandet came acrossed as a bit of an overactor, but I believe it was the directing, not the acting that was the problem. I thought he was a great James, and Edi Gathagi was a great Laurent. 
Victoria, however, was ALL WRONG. The very thought of this character is supposed to strike terror into our hearts throughout the next book. Rachelle Lefevre would make a great Anne of Green Gables with her slightly pudgy, freckley, girl-next-door face. But her attempts to be menacing were completely laughable.I believe Kata Dobo was born for the role of Victoria. She's a perfect match for Victoria's description: "Beautiful and feline or cat-like with long, swirling red hair that looks like wild fire." She's also got an AMAZING body, and her hungarian accent would have been a cool touch. Doesn't she look FIERCE!
Charlie was NOT was I was expecting, but I liked him anyway. Mike, Jessica, Eric were great. They may all stay.
WHEW. Now if I'm ever forced to watch that movie again I can just squint my eyes until everything is a big blur and mentally replace the cast. That will be the only gratification I will get from all this digging. Maybe next I'll show you my cast for New Moon. It's simply PERFECT.

Except for Edward. Everyone has a picture of Edward in their mind, and Rob Pattinson is much closer to my image of Edward.

I used to have naughty dreams about Justin Hartley. I confess, a few years ago I had nothing better to do in the afternoon so I watched Passions (that show was just awful - so terrible that it was hilarious). I was devastated when Justin's character (Fox) was re-casted.
I'm not really a Twilight enthusiast so I don't really care either way, but I about died when Jasper walked on screen. OH.MY.GOSH. In my opinion, he was the worst of them all.
Not only should you be hired immediately to do the hair and makeup (and maybe the directing, although I've never seen you direct) but you should also be paid millions of dollars to be the casting agent. I would have drooled all over myself and the person in front of me to watch this cast! The only one I would debate is Charlie. Wasn't he supposed to be a little plumpy around the middle? I think he was too young and too non-dad looking. Man, I wish I had the devotion to have come up with this cast... Good for you!

I laughed so hard I was almost crying. I have never seen Justin Hartley in anything but HOLY CRAP he is amazingly hot!!! If had been Carlisle no one would have paid any attention to Edward! I'm still not sure about either Edward; theirs is too ugly and yours is too boyish, I think. I wasn't sure about their pick for Alice but that other picture of her changed my mind. And I LOVE Danielle Panabaker as Bella, she's softer than the angular Kristen Stewart but we know she has personality and is very cute while still contrasting with the striking beauty of the vampires. And that guy you picked for Jasper -wow- if he acted as intense as he looks he would have made Edward look silly. The older Jacob DOES look an awful lot like Taylor and a few scenes with his shirt off and even I would be questioning my Team Edward position. I would almost say I can't believe you spent all the time to do this but what I really should say is I can't believe my sister and I didn't do it first!
Well Marisa, Carlisle is supposed to be physically more beautiful than Edward, so that's why I went with Justin. Isn't he gorgeous?! I actually agree with you about Sean being a bit boyish for the part. He's a WHOLE lot closer than FUGly Pattinson. My ULTIMATE Edward is Henry Cavill, circa The Count of Monte Cristo plus a year or two, but he's too old now. And I'll take Chase's intensity over Jackson's constipation any day. :) Though really, Jasper and Edward don't share any scenes, so there's no danger of being upstaged. You and your sister need to find me a better Edward so we can perfect this list.
Rebecca: Carlisle was 23 when he was changed. People start to get suspicious when he tries to pass himself as 30, so they can't stay in one place longer than 10 years.

Um Jacob yes dumb the one now although he was cute and made me want to like Jacob more I think he was too cute. The older one is much better.

She would be a fabulous Bella! And I loved the Esme actress but Emme Rossum would have been perfect. I was really disappointed with Rosalie, she wasn't at all the drop dead gorgeous model that I pictured but she did rub off on me a bit after seeing it again (and again), but I wouldn't have chosen her. Honestly, I was just glad that I had some other way to enjoy the Twilight again.

Okay, so I thought that I was okay with the cast already. Probably because I had followed the movie for so long and read/watched interview after interview (yes, I have no life) so I really liked the actors. However, with that said....WOW! This cast based on looks alone (because I have not seen all of them act) looks GREAT! Okay..this Edward is HOT. I liked Bella too. For some reason I sometimes like, then hate Kristen Stewart, but this actress just seems perfect, plus she was picked by Stephenie..right?
Okay, Justin Hartley would be perfect for Carlisle. I have watched him act, and he is good, even with the crap they give him on Smallville. He has that perfect angelic quality to him. And Esme looks awesome too. Comparing their Carlisle and Esme to yours is a little bit comical with how old their C & E really are! I also liked Kellan and Ashley. Nikki Reed did have the wrong coloring for Rosalie, but I don't think this girl is that pretty. I really thought that Jackson Rathbone understood the character, but you are right that he does not have a "general"/ "scarier than Hell" look.
I was not a huge fan of Taylor Lautner, and this guy looks more like I imagined Jacob. I personally hated Cam as James. I think it was just watching him in interviews that did it for me. He is such an egotistical punk!
I like Laurent A LOT! I thought he was great. Victoria was a nightmare. She was the worst one of them all!!!!! I LOVED your selection of Victoria the best. She is exactly how I would imagine her!
I also thought the supporting cast was the best too. They really got their parts, and I liked how Eric was not the loser they made him in the book. Anyways, now that I have written a short story on your post, I have to say BRAVO!
I hope New Moon is better for you. It really sucks to see a movie you really want to like and end up hating. I think that I let a lot go, just because I had followed so much of the pre/in production phases of the movie, but I still have to say that I will buy the DVD and I liked it....please don't throw any daggers =]

Hey! I am Jed Reynolds' little sister, Julia is your beautiful friend who introduced me to the blog, which is so hilarious, love it. This cast makes me 1. Flourish with " YA! Where the hell was their 'vision' with the original cast??!! An otherwise eye opening, cathartic experience. And 2. It's sad that they screwed the 1st one up so bad that even technically challenged tweenyboppers could see errors in many aspects of the malfunction production. Plus what the hell is Edward aka Rob Pattinson doing with such hairy arms? Um, like marble? Godlike? That is my image not skinny, anemic, boy-man with tufts of hair popping enthusiastically out of the top of his shirt? Well. Okay... Now, I've ever seen any of the other people act but Emmy Rossum, and I agree with some of them. Emmy Rossum would be a wonderful Esme, that's for sure, but I think that Elizabeth did a stunning job to.
You're Carlisle was okay, but I imagined him more beautiful than macho-manly handsome. So I like Peter Fancinelli better, and he acted out Carlisle magnificently, in my opinion.
For Edward, if he's a good actor, sure. Rob Pattinson was...okay...but his looks killed it. Your guy is...better...but to elfin and his nose goes up at the end. However, small problem. If he acts well, great.
Kellan Lutz was a perfect Emmett, I agree.

FYI, Stephenie Meyer had absolutely no say in the casting of these actors. Her choices are posted on HER site and I don't think a single one of them were used in the movie. So cool it.

I love your pics for most of the cast, but I have to admit, I always pictured Ellen Page (Juno) as Bella. She just seems like she can pull off the character flawlessly, plus she looks WAY better than Fugly Kristen Stewart. Since when does talking like Katherine Hepburn equal acting skill?

i hated patterson for edward. i LOVE ur cast. except for carlisle, i know he's too old, but in the book it says even though he's young he's like a father figure. i like jacob the way he was in the movie, because i always envisioned jabob as an always happy guy, but can be serious. and your guy is just too seriousness. everything else is perfect. Kristen Stewart should stick to her roles as a drug abusing daughter and leave the bella role to danielle. she's spot on. bella's supposed to be beautiful without realizing it. plus panabaker even has a bigger upper lip like bella.

This is how I thought of it...I really didnt have a picture of Bella when i read the books. Not until Breaking Dawn...and it's there that I can picture Kristen Stewart. I think she is more striking than the other girl. As for the other picks... I LOVE Peter Facinelli. I thought that Emmett was kind of portrayed as a douche bag in the movie which i really didn't like. Rosalie is not nearly as beautiful as I picured in my head, but the bitchiness is dead on! I can see Rob Pattinson as edward if he were.... cute. lol but that's just what i think... I think there were a lot of things wrong with the first movie and i just hope that the second one is better. and they have a different actress to play Victoria in Eclipse. That's what is so difficult about adapting a popular book like this into film. Especially since these characters were discribed with adjectives like "perfect" "God-like" and "flawless". That's going to look completely different from one person to the next! I love hearing how all of you invisioned and received the cast. Thanks for all your comments!

Nikki Reed did a great job in the acting department, but she did not look like Rosalie and you can tell she knew it. I always pictured Amanda Seyfried from Mama Mia as Rosalie when I read the books. She is so pretty and a great actress.
I personally thought Taylor Lautner was a terrible choice for Jacob Black in looks and acting. First off, I don't buy his story he's part Native American and his acting was annoying. Steven Strait isn't Native American either so I have a problem with him being considered as well. I think Tokala Clifford from Into the West would've made a great Jacob Black. He's a great actor and an authentic Native American.
